Todd Starnes of Fox News Radio reports:
The daughter of civil rights icon Martin Luther King, Jr. compared the state of Florida to the Middle East during remark she made marking the 50th anniversary of her father’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
“If freedom is going to ring in Libya, in Syria, in Egypt in Florida, then we must reach across the table, feed each other and let freedom ring,” Rev. Bernice King said from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.
President Obama was among those giving King a standing ovation.
Her remarks referenced the shooting death of Trayvon Martin after he attacked security guard George Zimmerman. Zimmer was acquitted of wrongdoing – but the state’s “Stand Your Ground” law sparked national controversy.
She did not mention freedom ringing in Spokane, Wash., Duncan, Okla., or Brunswick, Ga.
