Why do Republicans participate in these presidential debates? Time after time they are nothing but a media bashing of our guys that never ends well.
The tone was set with the very first questions asked by CNBC hosts at last night’s debate. Basically, he asked each to describe his weakness, as people are asked in a job interview. He cautioned them not to twist the question and make it something that was in essence flattering. In other words, tell me your vulnerabilities so that we in the media might exploit them and then use your response from them on to bash you.
Although the candidates each handled the question deftly, my response would have been different. I’d have said my biggest weakness is that I’m a Republican because you will immediately use that against me. Because I believe in freedom, low taxes and defending the country, you will do everything you can to ruin me. Because I don’t believe in regulation nation, you will work to make me look like an uncaring ogre that even my mother wouldn’t want.
What a stupid question! How embarrassing for CNBC to have anchors like John Harwood, Becky Quick and Carl Quintanilla. And that, as they say, was the good part. The debate quickly unraveled from there.
Yesterday I posted a warning about Harwood. I didn’t realize who the other moderators were but they are just as biased as he is. And was he! Interrupting, scolding and even lying about the candidates as in this exchange reported by the Daily Mail:
Harwood also crossed swords with Trump over the planned length of the debate, insisting it was always slated to be a two-hour affair despite news reports to the contrary.
‘Everybody said it was going to be three hours, three and a half, including them,’ Trump said during his closing statement, pointing at the moderators.
‘And in about two minutes I renegotiated it so we can get the hell out of here. Not bad.’
Following a round of applause, Harwood claimed Trump had it wrong.
‘Just for the record, the debate was always going to be two hours,’ he said.
‘That’s not right. That is absolutely not right,’ Trump fired back. ‘You know that.’
The RNC should be criticized for this debate. They know what NBC is like in any of it’s guises – MSNBC, NBC and CNBC. None is free from the slavish devotion they have to liberalism and the Democrat party.
What should be done is to drop the debates from any networks whatsoever and instead let the RNC handle them. They could do it live online and post it on a website. Then the moderators they choose can stop the cannabilism all the previous ones in memory have started.
An online debate is also basically free and would allow candidates to addresss issues in a dignified manner. If the candidates go after one another in that kind of debate, fine. Viewers can determine what they think about that without the media filter.
The current method is getting us nothing but more losses.
Want a bet Saturday Night Live hits them after this debate. I don’t recall that happening with the Democrat debate. We are just fodder for ridicule with this current system.
