If you don’t know about Hillary Clinton’s most recent despicable remarks, she said that Trump supporters are a “basket of deplorables.”
She was introducing Barbra Streisand at an LGBT fundraiser and here’s what she said:
“You know, just to be grossly generalist, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people – now have 11 million. He tweets and retweets their offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric.
“Now some of these folks, they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America.”
Clinton supposedly made $6 million at this event. Attendees paid $50,000 to attend.
So now everyone who supports Trump is deplorable in her eyes. Her remark rocketed to the top of twitter, #basketofdeplorables.
Hello, fellow deplorable.
Here’s how one twitter user defined us:
At one site, someone suggested we have a national deplorable pride day.
Let’s make it November 8, election day. All of us basket cases can come out and deplorably vote for Donald Trump in masses.
Frankly, I’m expecting an upgrade by Hillary to despicable. I’m sure she feels that way about us, too.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) is a fellow deplorable. She quickly put out a statement: “This is something that divides, it doesn’t unite.
“It is inconceivable to me that Hillary Clinton would have referred to her fellow citizens — people that support her opponent, people who are voters… that she would refer to them as deplorable or irredeemable,” Blackburn stated. “She has given us an insight into an elitist attitude and what the elites think about normal every day, hard-working Americans who are sick and tired of what is going on in this country and they are ready for change.” i
Scott Adams, Dilbert creator, also commented:
Also, “basket of deplorables” is such a cute nickname that the targets of that insult have humorously adopted it as their own label, or so I observe on Twitter. Instead of demonizing the “deplorables,” it made them sound kinda cute. Let’s call them adorable deplorables. I think Clinton’s funny label added humor to the situation and accidentally neutered the “dark” branding she was trying to spray-paint on that same set of Americans for the past month.”
