A New GOP Senator?

Didn’t you think it peculiar when Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WVa) said about his re-election, “I don’t give a shit, you understand? I just don’t give a shit”? Who in office does that? Why would he say such a thing?

Then a little while later the governor of West Virginia, Jim Justice, flipped from being a Democrat to a Republican the night President Trump visited his state. Again, it’s curious.

There may be some 3D chess going on here from the Commander in Chief. It is rumored that with the vacancy at Homeland Security when John Kelly took the White House Staff position, Trump might move Rick Perry over from the Energy Department to Homeland Security.

Trump could put Joe Manchin in that spot. Manchin knows about energy being from a coal state. He must not think he’s got an electoral chance in 2018 what with his remark. It could reflect the anger West Virginians feel about him and also his daughter’s involvement in a pharmaceutical company that skyrocketed the price of the Epi Pen.

Could this job be an out for him?

If it is, it means that a Democrat Senate spot would open up. With the newly switched governor, he could appoint a Republican who favors Trump’s views on Obamacare repeal, taxes, etc. and get a 53rd senator.

We need all the decent senators we can get. Interesting.
