Steve Cohen attending a prayer breakfast is like Harvey Weinstein attending a MeToo slumber party.
But, Cohen did it. It was yesterday at a prayer breakfast at the Broadway Baptist Church here. It was hosted by Phil Bredesen’s campaign. Cohen snarkily says “The big orange president …. He’s going to come down here and he is going to endorse Marsha Blackburn, because Marsha Blackburn, if he says, ‘Jump off the Harahan Bridge,’ she’ll jump off the Harahan Bridge. I wish he’d say that.”
Put this in his big bag of stupid comments that he carries with him wherever he goes.
At least the state GOP party responded quickly: “Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Scott Golden said it was ‘shocking and, frankly, sickening to hear a Democratic congressman actively wishing for a Republican congressman’s suicide.'”
This caused CA reporter Ryan Poe to pompously say, “Our article and the original HuffPo article made clear that Cohen’s comments were met with laughter,’ and Cohen later clarified that his comments were meant as a joke. What is more shocking, perhaps, is how thin-skinned our society has become — at least, when the offending person belongs to a different party than our own.”
It’s not thin skinned when it happens to Democrats. It’s racism, mysogynistic, homophobia, Islamaphobia, whatever. Then it’s an apocalypse of anger, fury and media going nuts.
A Republican, not so much.
Glad we’re finally responding.
