Putin to Get an Akita

The Akita prefectural government on Monday unveiled to members of the press an Akita puppy, which will be given later this month to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is known as a dog lover and keeps two dogs at home. The red-haired female puppy born in April will be delivered to Putin by Sunday following Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda’s offer to make a gift of the dog to the Russian leader during their meeting in Los Cabos, Mexico, in June on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit. Japan will also present the dog to Russia to express its gratitude for Russian support for the Tohoku region in northeastern Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March last year, local officials said.
