What’s happening in Wisconsin with the Democrats? They must feel extremely threatened by the GOP. For the second time in less than a week, a GOP worker has been attacked.
From the Daily Caller:
A bitter and contentious Wisconsin congressional race saw a new level of antagonism Wednesday morning when an openly gay Republican campaign worker became the victim of an apparent hate crime.
Kyle Wood, a full-time volunteer working for GOP House candidate Chad Lee, was hospitalized for injuries suffered during what he said was an assault at his home.
Wood told The Daily Caller that vandalism preceding the assault, along with his attacker’s statements during the incident, suggested his sexual orientation and his politics each played a role.
“I was getting ready for work and there was a knock at the door,” Wood emailed The Daily Caller late Wednesday. “I opened it, and a guy wrapped a ligature around my neck, slammed my head into the doorway, and smashed my face into a mirror, telling me ‘You should have kept your [f*******] mouth shut.’”
“He then kidney-punched me, while at the same time saying I was ‘warned,’ and continued to beat me,” he added.
Wood said his attacker’s reference to a warning likely pointed to graffiti he found painted on his car last week. The vandalism included the phrases “house trained republican faggot,” “traitor,” and “ur like a jew 4 hitler.”
Those slurs, he explained, were references to him being a gay Republican working to help Lee, a straight GOP candidate, defeat the openly gay Democrat Mark Pocan.
Then there was this man, hospitalized Friday.
According to the Janesville Gazette:
Sen. Neal Kedzie, R-Elkhorn, issued a news release Monday, saying his son Sean was assaulted by two persons Friday morning.
Whitewater police issued a news release Monday night, saying two men had assaulted another man somewhere in Whitewater early Friday morning. The facts match those related by Sean and his father, but the release does not identify the victim.
Sean Kedzie, 22, described the assault to The Gazette.
Sean said it was about 2 a.m. when he saw someone taking a Romney/Ryan yard sign from the lawn in front of his Whitewater home, which he rents with two friends.
He went outside and called for the two young men to return the sign. One man returned the sign, but at the same time, the second man jumped him, Sean said.
Sean broke free and ran to the street, as the men blocked any retreat to his home. They grabbed him and forced him to the ground near the curb, putting him in a chokehold and then pummeling him with their fists, he said.
Sean estimated he suffered about 20 blows. He said he now has two black eyes, one eye swollen completely shut and goose-egg bruises all over his head.
Can we expect more of this in Wisconsin and in other states? Probably.
Then there are other things happening that don’t get publicity. In Ohio in 2004, I helped the Bush campaign and there were many accounts of tires being slashed, people being pushed and injured plus intimidation. In 2008 we all remember the Black Panthers standing in front of polls in Philadelphia, ready with bats to use.
It’s sad that politics is getting physical.
