The Golden Globes award ceremony was on last night. Why does anyone watch it?
Conservatives are quick to give Hollywood the opprobrium they so deserve, but this morning I see many conservative media talking about them. Isn’t that like lighting matches and throwing it on the blaze already consuming your home? Why is there any publicity whatsoever given to movies and stars in the conservative arena?
First of all, no one has asked mere members of the public for their evaluation of these works. Whoever judges them does not come from mere mortals, but rarified elites chosen by other elites. So much for democracy.
Then you take a look at the nominees. They are always liberal actors and actresses. The same tired hacks: Steven Spielberg, Ben Damon and Matt Affleck (don’t they seem like the same person to you, too?), Quentin Tarantino, etc. The topics are liberal ones: how bad war is, how women are oppressed, racism, environmentalism, etc. The hosts are always fellow liberals: Sarah Palin hating Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, gay rights supporter Seth MacFarlane, Chris Rock. The winners are all rabid liberals: Obama campaign helper Lena Dunham, Ed Harris, Ben Affleck. You won’t find anything with the merest taint of conservatism allowed in these hallowed arenas.
This is all for the delight of the low information voter. Somehow they are thrilled just to watch these people come on stage and clumsily gush.
But we don’t need to be involved in it.
As they say, any publicity is good publicity, so why do we give it to them?
I heard many on the radio today discussing the merits of the Golden Globes and on some websites, too. Why? Just let them go and fade away. Hollywood and the mainstream television channels are soon going to be forgotten as new technology stops all this and gives the citizen more individual choices. Help that along by ignoring the Golden Globes, Oscars, Emmys, whatever.
Maybe our elites should begin questioning why these people have such a need for lavish attention. It is offputting to people who have their own lives to determine. No one holds awards ceremonies for us and we’re just fine with that. Maybe some psychologists should step out of the closet and shine a light on this sickness.
I have better things to do, like cleaning the toilet. At least it is more helpful than any of these characters.
