Yesterday an article on the front page of the M section of the Commercial Appeal featured columnist Manoj Jain with this headline: “Denying employment could be powerful way to discourage smoking.”
Jain asked whether it was “appropriate to deny employment to workers just because they smoke?” He argued both ways, but ultimately thought it probably was appropriate.
Normally I, as a Republican, would decry this attitude. But, if that applied to President Barack Obama, I am all for it. The media has been coy and deflected any questions as to his current habit but they haven’t denied he still takes a puff.
So if anyone should set an example as leader of the country it is our smoker in chief, Barack Obama. He should leave the Oval office right now and save countless lives.
