Thoughts on Gosnell

They whisked the abortion doctor away quickly didn’t they? He agreed to life in prison rather than a chance to appeal and the death sentence and so avoided more attention. Pro choice people wanted him gone. He was harming the cause. So he is now out of the news and, they hope, the terrible things he did now swept under the rug (or off the examination table) and forgotten.

Planned Parenthood had a weird reaction to his verdict. Eric Ferrero, Planned Parenthood Federation of America Vice President for Communications said,

“The jury has punished Kermit Gosnell for his appalling crimes. This verdict will ensure that no woman is victimized by Kermit Gosnell ever again.

“This case has made clear that we must have and enforce laws that protect access to safe and legal abortion, and we must reject misguided laws that would limit women’s options and force them to seek treatment from criminals like Kermit Gosnell.”

No mention of babies at all. Nor did the New York Times like to refer to the victims as babies. They preferred fetuses. It seems so much more clinical that way, doesn’t it?

Rush Limbaugh said he was inventing a new verb: to Gosnell. You’d have to conclude it means to abort a news story before it ever has a chance to get attention. It should come in handy, because that’s what the media does nowadays.

Finally, the weird practice Dr. Gosnell had of cutting off baby feet and keeping them in a jar on his desk. Is that some grotesque, Satanic slap at pro life groups? They like to wear a little pin of two baby feet as a sign of support for life. Perhaps Gosnell got his jollies doing this.

The whole affair was grotesque, but it should not be forgotten.
