Congressman Fred Upton (R-MI) wants to be chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. One big impediment to that goal is his support, co-sponsoring actually, three years ago for a ban on incandescent lightbulbs in favor of CFLs. That power grab has irked many conservatives. In light of that unpopular vote, he now says he would switch to championing incandescents. We’ll see if this strategy works later in the week when Republicans name committee chairmen.
